About the Role

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will be involved in cutting-edge research and development at the intersection of AI and product innovation. You will foster collaborations across teams at Microsoft, contributing to intellectual property, technology transfers, and impactful business solutions. Your work will enhance product quality through advanced research, machine learning models, and AI-driven solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Foster partnerships across Microsoft and beyond to deliver expertise and innovative technologies.
  • Bridge research and development, introducing new solutions, and contributing to intellectual property through publications and technology transfers.
  • Develop deep expertise in specific research areas and broad knowledge in related fields to enhance product quality and business impact.
  • Review, clean, and prepare data for analysis, ensuring that all technical standards are met.
  • Build prototypes for AI applications and implement scalable systems.
  • Design ML pipelines for data preparation and run advanced statistical analyses.
  • Train and deploy scalable AI solutions and support the application of intelligence in real product environments.
  • Apply advanced AI algorithms and work with large-scale computing frameworks to improve model performance and enhance business solutions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related fields, or currently pursuing a doctorate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, or related fields with 5+ years of relevant experience.
    -OR- Master's Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
    -OR- Doctorate with 1+ year of related experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience creating publications (e.g., patents, peer-reviewed papers).
  • Specialized experience in Natural Language Understanding, Neural Networks, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or Optimization Algorithms.
  • Experience with frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras for deep learning and statistical modeling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams.

  • Competitive base salary ranging from 117,200to117,200 to 229,200 depending on location and experience.
    • In the San Francisco Bay Area and NYC, the range is 153,600to153,600 to 250,200.
